The plans include erection of a superstore, petrol filling station and car wash together with car parking, trolley storage shelters, landscaping and an enclosed service yard with lorry access.

The site ground conditions are challenging, with a brook running through the site resulting in the store floor having to be raised to suit proposed floor levels.

The store building and service yard to the east of the brook has been vibro compacted to achieve suitable ground bearing pressures for the new construction. Two new vehicular bridges have been designed to link the store to the car parking on the west of the brook. These bridges abutments along with the petrol station buildings and storage tanks have required piled foundations. The site works, which are being undertaken by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland, commenced in January 2010 and are planned for completion in August 2010.The main entrance will have a clock tower designed to appear similar to a lighthouse, which will reflect Saltney’s nautical heritage alongside waved and curved canopies.
