Hat trick for GHA Livigunn at ACE Engineering Awards
GHA Livigunn walked away for the third year running with awards from the ACE Engineering Excellence Awards. This year saw GHA Livigunn as winners in the two categories of Building Services and Infrastructure.
GHA Livigunn were the awarded winners in the category of Building Services for their detailed civil, structural and mechanical design for the implementation of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipework at Heysham Stage 2 Power Station by British Energy through a sub-contract appointment with Boulting Nuclear.
The judges commented: “This project was full of firsts and involved a very tough task’ GHA Livigunn won in this category due to “the innovation involved, the technical aspects, and on the high risk nature of the project”.
Craig Stockton, GHA Livigunn’s Divisional Director, who collected the award at the ceremony said: “‘We are delighted that ACE recognised the challenges we faced in designing with this material in the nuclear sector. The team at GHA Livigunn have developed some excellent design techniques which together with the characteristics of the material will extend the life of these cooling water systems for many years to come”
Mike Craddock, system health engineer, at Heysham 2 power station said: “I have been very impressed by the professional support given by GHA Livigunn team throughout this project.
“They have used an innovative approach in controlling corrosion within power station sea water systems by replacing traditional steel lined pipes with High Density Polyethylene.
“It is a world first for safety related cooling systems and has attracted considerable interest worldwide within the industry. We are pleased to congratulate GHA Livigunn on its success in achieving this third prestigious Engineering award. “
GHA Livigunn also received the award of ‘Highly Commended’ under the category of Infrastructure for their work on Hodder Service Reservoir.
The judges described this project as “very sensitive to the needs of the local environment and community with smart solutions”.
