3D modelling capability secures ‘Be The Best awards’ for GHA Livigunn and its partners
Working in association with Severn Trent Water’s Engineering Team and leading UK infrastructure services company, Morgan Est., Frodsham-based process, mechanical and electrical engineering design consultancy, GHA Livigunn, has scooped two coveted Severn Trent ‘Being the Best’ gold awards.
Held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, on 11th and 12th July 2007, the Being the Best awards take place annually and provides Severn Trent’s internal departments and external partners with the opportunity to showcase the projects they have been involved in over the past twelve months.
There are three award categories at the two-day event - and judging is carried out by Severn Trent employees. The ‘gold’ awards won by GHA Livigunn and its partners were for ‘Best Health & Safety Project’ and ‘Best Communicator’.
3D 4U – and for Frankley
Entitled ‘3D 4U’, the work presented by the team showcased the advantages of 3D modelling and the benefits it had brought to those involved in the design and construction surrounding the building of the Frankley Water Treatment Works GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) plant.
Frankley Water Treatment Works treats and supplies drinking water that is piped from the Elan Valley in Wales to Birmingham and its surrounding areas for numerous industrial customers as well as over 1 million households. A two-and-half-year contract, upgrading Frankley involves extensive pipework, as well as the installation of new electrical and mechanical systems.
Complex geometry
The 3D modelling capabilities provided by GHA Livigunn for Severn Trent Water and Morgan Est have enabled the design teams to fully understand the complex geometry involved in designing the plant. They have provided a clearer understanding of the Health & Safety issues involved and made it far simpler for other interested parties, key stakeholders – and those not necessarily familiar with interpreting 2D engineering drawings – to fully appreciate the intricacies surrounding the Frankley GAC project.
Unexpected honour
Comments GHA Livigunn Marketing Manager, Chris Edwards, “It was a pleasure to take part in the 2007 Being the Best event and to gain the opportunity to demonstrate the advantages of 3D modelling from both a design and Health & Safety aspect to all interested parties. To be singled out for two major wards at the event was an unexpected honour – and reflects all the hard work put into the Frankley project by Morgan Est, Severn Trent Engineering and the 3D design team at GHA Livigunn.”
