GHA Livigunn's gap student Nathan Somerset wins major award at CTTB Awards

Nathan Somerset, who is currently on a student gap placement with GHA Livigunn through The Year in Industry Scheme (YINI), has been awarded the ICE ‘Most Promising Civil Engineer of the Northwest’ award at The Contribution to the Business (CTTB) Awards held recently in Manchester.

By beating seventy-five other entries Nathan will now be entered into the National Year in Industry Contribution to the Business Awards competition, which will take place in London in September.

Nathan’s submission on a tender he prepared for a client on Crosby Marine Lake demonstrated his growing contribution to GHA Livigunn and showcased the benefits to the business in offering work placements of this kind to students.  Nathan, who attended Priestley College in Warrington, leaves the company at the end of summer to start a degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering at the University of Salford.  Nathan said: “I feel extremely privileged to win such a prestigious award.  This last year has been challenging and it’s a good feeling to receive an award at the end.  I didn’t know what to expect from this year out but I have enjoyed my time at GHA Livigunn, who have given me outstanding support throughout my placement.”

Stewart Tennant, GHA Livigunn’s Director added: “We are thrilled to learn that our gap student, Nathan Somerset, has been recognised as ‘Most Promising civil Engineer of the Northwest’ in the 2009 CTTB Awards.  He has continuously strived forward in his detailed work to meet all objectives set for him and his maturity will stand him in good stead in his future chosen career.   As a company we continuously look for excellence and by offering placements to students in their gap years we hopefully provide them not only with opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge but it also provides us with fresh ideas from youngsters who are, of course, our future.  We are pleased to confirm too that we will be helping Nathan with sponsorship through his university course.”
