Another £10,000 donated to WaterAid by the GHA Livigunn annual challenge 2008
The eighth GHA Livigunn challenge – and the third challenge in aid of WaterAid, a charity founded by the UK water industry in 1981 whose aim is a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation - took place last September in Lancashire’s Forest of Bowland and raised £10,000.
A total of eleven teams participated in the event – ‘Beefies’ of Balfour Beatty, ‘Ninja Squirrels’ of The Electricity Alliance, ‘Centrals’ of Laing O’Rourke to name but a few – led by GHA Livigunn’s three teams of ‘Lady and the Tramps’, ‘Numero Uno’ and ‘5th Preston West’. The two-day challenge consisted amongst others of night orienteering, a yomp over ten miles, rock climbing and even some recreational mud-sliding, culminating in the ‘Beefies’ of Balfour Beatty crossing the winning line first.
Stewart Tennant, GHA Livigunn’s Director, commented: “Through the generosity of everyone involved in our 2008 challenge we have raised once again a total of £10,000 for WaterAid and in particular for their water purification and well building project in one of Africa’s poorest countries, Malawi.”
“The bi-annual challenge has become a landmark event in the calendars of our clients and staff and the funds raised have increased steadily over the years. Planning for the 2010 event is now underway and we hope that the next one will push everyone’s endurance levels to the top and see GHA Livigunn on the winning rostrum.”
A cheque for £10,000 was presented to Fran Critchley, WaterAid’s Regional Representative for the North of England and Simon Knight, Chairman of WaterAid North-West Region, by Mark Ingram, Managing Director of GHA Livigunn. Mark also presented a prize to Stuart Smith of Balfour Beatty for their outstanding efforts in raising the most sponsorship.
