Hazardous Area Classification
The ATEX Directive 137, on "minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres" came into European Law in January 2000 and is implemented in the UK under the "Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres " Regulations (DSEAR) 2002. While these regulations now apply to all new facilities, existing installations have until June 2006 to comply.
A key part of compliance with the regulations requires technical hazard assessment to identify ignition risks and prescribe preventative or protection measures. GHA Livigunn has staff familiar with and specifically trained in carrying out such Hazardous Area Classification studies in line with the relevant British Standards and industry codes of practice.
We also understand the various systems available for use in Hazardous Areas as described by ATEX 100 and the EPS regulations, and can provide advice on appropriate methods to suit each application.
